spxThe United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in association with Kenya Investment Authority has launched Kenya’s first Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX) program in Aug 2012. The SPX centre is hosted by Kenya Investment Authority in partnership with UNIDO and several public and private organizations.

SPX is a technical cooperation programme which was set up by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to link domestic enterprises in developing countries to supply chains of large companies (both domestic & international). The focus is to develop MSMEs’ capacity to meet buyer needs and to identify profitable business opportunities for them.

The SPX Kenya program aims to support the Kenyan manufacturing sector by facilitating linkages between local industrial suppliers and buyer networks. The program targets working closely with a range of local and national organizations and agencies (stakeholders) within the UNIDO SPX implementation framework to positively impact the manufacturing sector. The program targets focus on flagship programs as identified in the country’s development master plan-the Vision 2030.
The SPX approach builds on global best practice and consists of four key activities namely Supplier Profiling, Benchmarking, Supplier Capacity Building and Matchmaking.

How to get Involved

The local SPX team is already carrying out visits to target companies with a view to profiling them and eventually uploading the information on the UNIDO SPX database where the organizations shall be visible to buyers and/or suppliers. The profiling exercise involves collection of certain company information important in the development of business linkages between potential partners.
