Kenya Investment Authority in its strategic plan recognises that Business Development Services (BDS) is an important means of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and part of the Vision 2030 aspirations by engaging in business empowerment programmes to increase productivity and competitiveness at large.

In doing so, KenInvest through the BDS section, has adopted strategy whose scope will effectively have a range of services designed to assist MSME entrepreneurs to operate efficiently and grow their businesses with the aim of being players in the Global Value Chain (GVC) as well as contributing to the overall economic growth and development. Most importantly, Business Development Services will seek to increase quality participation of the MSME sector in the overall Economy, in order to enhance the competitiveness of the Sector. Practically, the Business Development Services will work to find out the optimal means by which the private sector, whether formal or informal can attain and sustain growth through increased productivity and competitiveness.

The Corporate Strategic Plan of KenInvest whose mandate is to promote and facilitate investments in Kenya for both local and foreign investors has identified the facilitation and support of domestic MSME as a key driver to this end.
