Nandi County is located in the Rift Valley. It covers an area of 2,884.2.2 sq km with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 26°C and rainfall of between 1,200mm and 2,000mm per annum. The administrative headquarters is Kapsabet Town.

Economy of Nandi County

Nandi county is most notable for the scenic Nandi Hills. It is popular for  tea estates that do well because of the rich volcanic soils, the cool and wet climate that the area experiences and the high altitude.

Agriculture is the main economic activity in the area with many households earning a living from this sector. Animal rearing is also practised with most households opting to keep cattle for both the production of beef and dairy products.

Various events such as safari rally competitions, prestigious golf tournaments and cross country running competitions regularly bring a number of visitors to the county among them international athletes and sporting enthusiasts. The county also hosts both Kenyan and foreign athletes and cyclists who come to the region to do high altitude training. There is great potential to develop sports tourism in the county.
