INPUT 2006

What is INPUT?
The INPUT investment conference is a component of the CDE-PROCINVEST programme, a common initiative of the European Commission and institutions from the ACP States

(Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific).  INPUT is the first stage of a programme to develop and support the water, energy and transport sectors, which are a major challenge for the ACP States.•   In this context, after the successful organisation of INPUT 2005 in Accra/Ghana (350 participants from more than 40 countries and more than 100 declarations of intent for future collaboration between companies and different associations), INPUT 2006 will mobilise the major actors involved in the fields of water, energy and transport in East Africa/Indian Ocean as well as in Europe, bringing them together at a regional investment conference due to take place in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) from 7th to 9th June 2006.

• Some 250 to 300 high level delegates will take part in this investment conference, the agenda of which will include plenary sessions, sector-related and thematic workshops and one-to-one business meetings between African and European stakeholders.

Who should attend?

• Private and public companies from East Africa/Indian Ocean and Europe active in the various lines of businesses (contractors, operators and suppliers of equipment, technology and services) in the targeted sectors:
•Water: Extraction, treatment, distribution, supply and purification Water, energy and transport sectors

Challenges and opportunities

The Sub-Saharan African and Indian Ocean countries have experienced an acceleration of their GNP growth, in excess of 4% in 2004, while their budget deficit decreased, on average, to its lowest level in the last decade.
This recovered growth, which is expected to continue overthe next years, coincides with the implementation of a regulatory environment more favourable to private enterprise. Within this context, Sub-Saharan Africa benefits from an Increased support from European and International financial institutions and cooperation agencies. Such international aid Is, for the most part, dedicated to the water, energy and transport sectors, for which Infrastructures and services are, in most cases, insufficient to fulfil both the local population’s basic needs and the requirements of economic development and environmental protection. These international institutions aim at ensuring the rehabilitation of existing infrastructures, the development of new ones, the improvement of the management of operations and the quality of service to clients. They are, in the meantime, promoting privatisation and/or public-private partnerships (PPP), as well as providing support to the private sector.
