Overview
Kakamega County is located in Western Kenya. It covers an area of 3,224.9 sq km with average temprature of 20.5°C. Rainfall ranges between 1,250 – 1,750 mm per annum. The county has 8 local authorities (Municipal Council of Kakamega and Mumias, County Councils of Kakamega, Butere-Mumias, Town Council of Malava) with Kakamega Town as the administrative capital.

The country has fairly good weather patterrns making agriculture a major economic activity. Sugar Cane farming is extensively practiced . The county is home to one of the largest sugar producing firm in Kenya (Mumias sugar).Investment in water conservation and irrigated farming could enhance its enhance agricultural production.
The Kakamega forest is the main tourist destination in the county and is home to a large variety of flora and fauna. The rainforest hosts many species of birds and plant life. Opportunities exist in development of tourist facilities to tap into this resource.
